Maharashtra open varsity to train pharma company staff

In a major initiative under the industry-university collaboration, the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) at Nashik has signed a
memorandum of understanding, MoU, with pharmaceutical giant Lupin to educate its trainee-employees on their plants.      
As per the MoU between the University and the College of Pharmacy, Nashik, the employees who join the company after HSC will be enrolled for a three year degree programme 'B.Sc in Industrial Drug Science' at the study centre of the company in Tarapur where MVP Pharmacy College will provide training.
      
The company will bear all the fees of the students, provide them free of cost accommodation, food, besides paying them a handsome stipend, Shrinivas Belsare, Head, Corporate Communications, YCMOU Mumbai Office, said.
      
The MoU was signed by Diwakar Kaza, President, Human Resources of Lupin Ltd and Dr Prakash Atkare, Registrar of YCMOU.
      
Dr R Krishnakumar, Vice Chancellor of YCMOU, said the University believed in developing courses according to the needs of the industry, thereby making its students more employable.
      
Lupin was undertaking such projects due to its commitment to the cause of corporate social responsibility, Kaza said, adding the model of training would be replicated in several plants of the company in MP, Gujarat and Goa.
