State minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope has said that industry experience will be made compulsory for teachers in government-run technical institutions and recruitment rules changed accordingly. He added strict action would be taken against universities that fail to update the syllabi regularly.
“An individual starts teaching in an institution immediately after completing graduation. If the teacher has some work experience in an industry it would benefit students and faculty as well,” Tope said. Speaking to reporters after a function here, Tope said the government will introduce this rule once the draft was ready. “The move will help bridge the gap between the industry and academia as teachers will not only have theoretical but practical knowledge too.”
