Anna University of Technology to have tie-up with Wipro

The Anna University of Technology, Madurai, is going for a tie-up with IT major Wipro for launching a focused programme in its affiliated engineering colleges to enhance the students' employability level.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect is expected to be signed soon after which Wipro would implement its ‘Mission 10X' to help improving the teaching-learning practices in engineering education.
Capacity-building

Mission 10X is a capacity-building/empowerment programme designed by Wipro for the faculty and students of engineering colleges.

It helps in creating better knowledge and skills among students through their faculty who would get trained in this programme.

R. Murugesan, Vice-Chancellor, AUT Madurai, told TheHindu on Wednesday that the skill development programme would be taken to all its 36 affiliated engineering colleges and also to its own constituent colleges.
42 colleges in its fold

The university has totally 42 engineering colleges in its fold covering five districts – Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram.

“It is a matter of concern that even though our students are technically sound and scored good marks in examinations, they were unable to express themselves with confidence during campus interviews. That lacunae would be removed through our collaboration with Wipro,” Dr. Murugesan informed.

The Vice-Chancellor cited an example of a candidate who fumbled and could not speak at all during the job fair conducted by the university here last month.

“Here was a student who secured very good percentage of marks. But, this boy was unable to communicate when he attended the interview. These sort of things should be addressed soon,” he pointed out.

The varsity's proposed collaboration with Wipro for ‘Mission 10X' is to be implemented from the beginning of the coming academic year.

Simultaneously, the Anna University of Technology also proposes to introduce a few short-term value-added certificate programmes for the students of engineering colleges so that they are qualified for jobs.

“These certificate courses will be held during evening hours. They will be only optional and students interested in learning new subjects and improve soft skills can join,” Dr. Murugesan said.

The university Registrar E. B. Perumal Pillai said that the Civil Services coaching programme is set to take off soon as nearly 60 candidates had already come forward to join.
