Proper education is the tool for the children to prepare for the future.
While addressing at a function, HRD Ministed Kabil sibal said, "Unless children are empowered to education through free speech, they cannot exercise their right to free speech, exercise their right to profession, to business or move freely throughout the territory of India".
"Of the 20 crore who go to school, 14 crore don't reach college. If they are not empowered, you can imagine what impact they will have on society. HSBC's 'Future first' programme seeks to tackle child poverty through education projects. That programme would benefit as many as 130,000 children in the country" he added further.
In the first phase, 5 lakh children have benefited from the programme and as many of them would be covered in the second phase.
HSBC has pledged an additional USD 15 million over five years to extend the Future First.
