The Bihar Government admitted that shortage of lecturers had adversely affected academic atmosphere in various colleges and universities.
Replying to a question of RJD MLA Akhtarul Imam in the state Assembly, Human Resources Minister P K Sahi said as against the requirements of 13,837 lecturers in the varsities, 7,557 posts were now at work.
"The shortage has adversely affected the academic atmosphere in colleges and universities in the state," he said.
Pointing that the vacancy of lecturers was not not being filled up because of some technical difficulties, Sahi said the state government was planning to set up a commission for recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in universities and colleges.
"The University Employees Commission bill is likely to be placed in the House during the current session which will remove all the technical difficulties in filling up the
vacancies," he said.
Leader of the opposition in the state Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui suggested that the state government should take effective steps to fill up the vacancies within a time-frame.
