Jolen Rosario, one of the many students appearing for the HSC examination, reached his centre well before time on Thursday. Minutes before the test, he learnt that the exam he came prepared was conducted the day before.
Rosario, a victim of the change in the HSC exam schedule, missed his French paper on Wednesday. Following the old timetable uploaded on the board’s official website, Rosario went to his centre at Rizvi College on Thursday. He has applied for the HSC examination as a private candidate registered through St Andrew’s College. Last year, he was a class XII student at the same college but could not appear for the exam as he was hospitalised just few days prior to the exam.
Marie Fernandes, principal of St Andrew’s College, said that since Rosario was a private candidate, he would not attend lectures and was not aware of the change. “Students nowadays only follow what is uploaded on the internet. Rosario had downloaded the timetable that was uploaded first.” added Fernandes.
SSC board secretary Ravindra Bhise said, “We had made an official announcement of the change almost a month in advance and told all colleges to inform students. Even on the first day of exam, every centre announced the change in all their classes. How can a student not know about this? This is a board exam and lakhs of students are appearing for the same paper everyday, we can’t keep a separate re-examination for one student.”
In a separate incident, a bunch of HSC students missed their Marathi paper on Thursday, which was scheduled to be held between 11am-2pm. However, these students reached their centre at Ruia College much later, assuming that the paper was scheduled between 3pm-6pm.
