City based college wins competition

Students of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College here have emerged first amongst the South Indian college teams in an all India level technical competition -
SAE INDIA BAJA 2011 - for designing and fabricating All Terrain Vehicle.
The competition was organised by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recently at Pithambur, Madhya Pradesh. All the participating college students had to design and fabricate an all terrain vehicle (ATV) capable of sustaining rugged terrains and cross the boundary successfully, a college release said.
 
SAE INDIA BAJA is a technical event conducted annually providing opportunity to budding and aspiring engineers from all over India to showcase their mettle and compete with the best peer engineering groups from different parts of the country.  
 
As many as 79 colleges all over India participated in the competition, the release added.
 
In the event, the vehicles designed by the students were tested and evaluated on several aspects including Brake Test, Speed Test, Rough Terrain Test on hills and Competitive features. Experts from Research and Development departments of leading organizations assessed the overall competitiveness of the vehicles.
  
The ATV designed by the students of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College was completely fabricated in the college workshop and is capable of manoeuvring obstacle laden terrains with minimum effort. The 4 tyre single seater vehicle consists of a LGA 340 petrol engine and Mahindra Alfa transmission System and weighs 401 kg.
