Meghalaya govt to turn Pine Mount into international school

The Meghalaya government has decided to turn the century-old Pine Mount School, a residential school for girls, into an international school.

Expressing hope, the Chief Minister Mukul M Sangma told that Pine Mount inititative would boost the efforts of the government to transform the state into an educational hub and that Rs 4 crore had been earmarked for the process of giving facelift to the school in order to live up to the commitment to convert it into an international school.

''A complete master plan would be ready by next year and the amount earmarked would be for construction of a 'green hostel' for students in which the source of power would be drawn from solar energy,'' he said.

The chief minister also informed that two other international schools with the same name and quality will be set up in East Khasi Hills and Garo Hills district.

Pine Mount School was founded in 1900 as a government institution for the education of children of European descent. An old hard-bound Admission Register in the school office has entries dating back to the year 1900.
