After a gap of two years, the computer science courses like Java and .net have bounced back into lime light with students showing a lot of keenness in doing them at institutes in the wake of increasing job opportunities in the industry. Campus placements and a rosy picture given by NASCOM on the growth rate in the next ten years also explain the demand for these courses.
S. Rambabu, director of Sri Sai Institute of Technology (SSIT) who is better known as “Java Rambabu” in Vijayawada says that there is better response from the students when compared to last year. The immediate reason is apparently the massive job recruitment drive already started by TCS, Infosys and other companies.
The computer science languages, which are currently high in demand are Java and .net as there are increasing jobs for those having grip over these languages. From students of B.Tech to MCA, youngsters are showing interest in acquiring these skills that stand them in good stead in their future careers.
T. Himabindu, who is doing B.Tech final year in distance education mode from Acharya Nagarjuna University, says that she wants to acquire good skill in Java and .net. “Though these are taught in regular colleges, students prefer to join private training institutes for a good understanding of the subject.
P. Sivaramaraju and Sk. Vali, MCA students of Sarathi Engineering Institute, Nuzvid, say that Java and .net are advanced languages when compared to C and C++. They are confident of having a good career after doing these courses.
SSIT director Rambabu says that offering these high-demand courses in face-to-face classroom model does not help in reaching many students. As a solution, he is currently working on how to use the “Blended Learning Approach”, which is in vogue in the US, to benefit greater number of students here.
