Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, won the 11th International Moot Court Competition, 2011, organised by the Government Law College and the D M Harish Foundation.
Twenty-eight national and international colleges participated in the three-day event that started on February 10. The subject for the competition was “Surrogacy Contract”.
The final round of moot court, which was held at the convocation hall of Mumbai University was presided over by a panel of five judges from the Bombay high court, justices Dr D Y Chandrachud, B R Gavai, Roshan Dalvi, Ranjit More and R Y Ganoo.
In the final round, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala and Gujarat National Law University put up the arguments on case study of a surrogacy contract in two developing countries—Bolita and Garundi. Rajiv Gandhi National University was declared a runner-up. “Presence of so many participants from foreign universities is perhaps a sign of India establishing itself at the international level,” said Justice Chandrachud as he declared the winner.
