Mumbai: Even though there was large-scale copying at the HSC examination held in March at Nanded, the home town of chief minister Ashok Chavan, it was detected only during the evaluation of papers in the second week of May.
HSC board chairman (Latur) M R Kadam on Wednesday confirmed that there was large-scale copying, saying, in view of the rampant malpractice, the results of 3,000 students have been withheld. “Pending a high-level probe, the board has decided to withhold their results which are scheduled to be declared on Thursday,’’ Kadam told TOI.
Kadam said that after the examination was over, it was found that in the English language paper, out of 200 students, the answersheets of 186 were identical. “The moderators brought to our notice the similarities in the answers of 186 students. Even the mistakes were identical. We decided to check again the answersheets of all 3,900 students at Mudkhed centre in Nanded district. Following our probe, we found that the answersheets of 300 students were identical,’’ Kadam said.
According to rules prescribed by the board, Kadam said all the answersheets, along with the comments of the moderators and the chief moderator, were placed before the board. It was decided that before taking action against erring students, a showcause notice would be issued to the students as per board rules.
Accordingly, some students were summoned to record their statement at Rajasthan High School in Mudkhed tehsil. While the inquiry was being conducted, students and their parents went on the rampage. “School staff was injured and there was massive damage to school property. We have lodged a complaint with the local police,’’ Kadam added.
