Mahatma Gandhi University will set up a community college based on a finishing school concept to help students from weaker sections who have not been able to complete their professional courses, a top official said today.
A sum of Rs 50 lakh earmarked in MKU's 2011-12 budget for the college, to be set up on 20 acres at Udumbanchola in Idukki district, MGU vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Gurukkal said on the sidelines of the budget session of the University here.
There are also plans to set up an academic and administrative staff training college at a cost of Rs one crore, he said.
An acccident insurance policy for students associated with laboratory work, Rs 10 crore bio-medical research centre at Puthupally, an institute of intensive research in basic sciences are on the anvil.
