AP professional colleges to shutdown from Feb 16 over fee row

Updated on: Saturday, February 12, 2011

The managements of professional colleges in Andhra Pradesh said they will shutdown their institutes from February 16 to protest the State Government's refusal to release the full amount for the tuition fees reimbursement for backward class students.

The representatives of the managements held discussions with the Ministers after which they expressed dissatisfaction over the Government's readiness to release only Rs 600 crore while the amount to be paid was over Rs 3,000 crore.

"The talks have failed. We decided to go ahead with our plan to shutdown the colleges from February 16. We will reconsider our stand only if the Government releases at least 50 per cent of the funds,"  a representative of the managements said.

Meanwhile, the main Opposition TDP yesterday held demonstrations at various places to protest the Government's failure to provide adequate funds for fees reimbursement.
