Cusat gears up for CAT

Cochin University of Science and Technology is all set for the Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to its various academic programmes.

Admission to the first degree programmes in engineering and technology (B.Tech. and five-year Integrated M.Sc. degree course in photonics) will be based on CAT to be conducted on an all-India basis at New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Kota and all district headquarters in Kerala on April 2.

CAT for all postgraduate programmes (except M.A Hindi, five-year BBA L.L.B. (Hons) and MA applied economics) will be held on April 3. It will be conducted only at the district headquarters in Kerala. Lateral entry test (LET) will be conducted only at Kochi centre. The Department Admission Tests (DATs) will be held in Kochi. The departments/ schools/ centres concerned will announce the schedule later. The LET for B. Tech. lateral entry will be on held on April 10.

Lateral entry is offered for B.Tech. degree course in civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, information technology, instrumentation technology, mechanical, polymer science and engineering and safety and fire engineering.

Candidates will have to download the admit card from the web site www.cusat.nic.in. by submitting their registration number and date of birth. Fifty per cent of the total seats for B.Tech. (self-financing) programmes are free seats while payment seats constitute 40 per cent and NRI payment seats (10 per cent). The free seats are earmarked for Keralite students. For B.Tech. in naval architecture and ship building, instrumentation and polymer science and engineering, 10 per cent of the seats are reserved for students on all-India basis (as all-India quota) and the remaining seats for Keralites.

For all regular postgraduate programmes including subsidised courses like M.C.A., MBA (international business), MBA (travel and tourism) and five-year Integrated M.Sc. degree course in photonics programmes, 10 per cent of the seats are earmarked for students on all-India basis (as all-India quota) and the remaining for Keralites. Fifty per cent of the seats are set apart for Keralites for postgraduate programmes under the self-financing sector while the open category consists of 40 per cent of the seats. Nearly 10 per cent of the seats are reserved for the NRIs.

Nearly 1,000 seats are available for the B.Tech. programmes on the Thrikkakara and Pulinkunnu campuses of the university. About 570 seats are available at the school engineering in Trikkakara.

The estimate breakdown of seats is: civil engineering (90); computer science and engineering (90); electrical and electronics engineering (60); electronics and communication engineering (90); information technology (90); mechanical engineering (90); safety and fire engineering (30); and marine engineering (30).

The branches and number of seats (total 300) available at Cochin University College of Engineering on the Kuttanad campus are: computer science and engineering (60); electrical and electronics engineering (60); electronics and communication engineering (60); information technology (60); and mechanical engineering (60). The Faculty of Technology offers three B.Tech. programmes in instrumentation (28); polymer science and rubber technology (20); and naval architecture and ship building (24).
