MBBS: Over 6000 applications sold out

Chennai:On the very first day of application sale for MBBS and BDS courses at various places, little over 6000 application forms were sold.

It was utterly chaotic state on the first day of the sale of application forms for MBBS and BDS courses in the state on Wednesday as the department of medical education did not expect such large crowds as the application forms were easily downloaded from the Internet this year.

Even as the students and their parents wait in the heat for the forms at government medical colleges, some students were disappointed and confusion prevailed when only payment by Demand Draft, from a particular bank, was accepted.

On the first day alone, for the 1,483 medical seats in the 14 government-run medical colleges in the state little over 6,000 forms were sold, including 2,000 in Chennai.

The authorities expected the students to download the application forms from the government websites. The forms are available on www.tnhealth.org and www.tn.gov.in and students can submit their demand drafts for Rs 500 along with the application forms, The Director of Medical Education, Dr Vinayakam said. In total over 18,000 students were expected to apply for the course, he said.

While the applicants who were unable to get one form complained about the apparent shortage of forms, Dr Sheila, Counseling Secretary said that depending on the demand, more forms would be printed. Since downloading is possible, there may not be a necessity to arrange for more forms.

Against a query from a student about the marks list to produce for counseling if applied for revaluation, Dr. Sheila said that students waiting for re-evaluated marks can produce the same- revaluated marks during the counseling sessions, as by the time it would have come.
