Delhi University authorities today evicted two students from a hostel, a day after the High Court chided one of them, who had petitioned for relief, for concealing facts about their staying in another DU college hostel earlier in order to avail cheap accommodation.
The two students had been served several notices by the University asking them to vacate their rooms in the Jubilee Hall Hostel (JHH) but they had refused to oblige and one of them approached the High Court against his eviction.
Phd student Venu Gopal's plea for a stay on a notice served upon him to vacate the hostel was rejected yesterday by the Delhi HC which also slammed him for concealing the fact of his staying in a Zakir Hussain College hostel to avail accommodation in the Jubillee Hall Hostel hostel of the university.
The other student Ram Kumar Sonkar who was evicted was also a non-bonafide resident of the hostel, according to officials.
The Proctor has asked the hostel authorities to provide a list of non-bonafide residents immediately so that the University can initiate necessary action against defaulters, the University said in a statement. He also gave out a strong message that said no indiscipline and violation of the hostels and University rules would be tolerated.
The High Court had yesterday said that the intent of Venu Gopal "was to continue availing of the cheap accommodation by hook or by crook"
