'Students should think out of the box

In a globalised world, students must exhibit out of the box thinking and come up with innovative solutions to be competitive, Tamil Nadu State Council for
Technical Education Vice-Chairman M S Palanichamy said.
Palanichamy said while the students would play a vital role in a globalised world in which India would play a major role, the youngsters "should also not forget about less privileged countrymen".

"India still has problems like poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy and diseases, with around 360 million of our population being illiterate, 260 million people living below poverty line, more than 30 million being unemployed and 40 million children deprived of primary education. India has more than a handful of problems to solve," he said.

He was speaking at the 'Graduation Day' ceremony at Anna University in which 2,849 students belonging to four colleges received their degrees.

"So (the students) have a moral responsibility to contribute to nation building by directly participating and contributing to solve the problems of rural India", he added.

Earlier, S Shanmugavel, Registrar, Anna University, said in his annual report that MoUs had been signed with more than 77 foreign universities.

He said 16 students and 15 faculty members had visited institutions abroad to participate in conferences and collaborative research programmes with financial assistance from Anna University.
