The Madras High Court today directed the authorities to recall the Telugu text books if any mistakes were found to have crept into them.
The Court gave this direction following a Public Interest Litigation filed by T Sanjeeva Rao, who sought a direction to the authorities to review the entire Social Science-Telugu Text Book for the sixth standard and remove mistakes found therein and print a new book for circulation.
The petitioner submitted that the social science textbooks published by state authorities in the Telugu in 2010 for sixth standard students had a lot mistakes and therefore, these books should not be recommended for study.
Rao also made a representation before the Secretary and Director of School Education to go through these textbooks and review them.
Disposing the matter, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the petitioner to file a fresh representation before the Director of School Education, pointing out specifically and clearly each and every mistake that has crept in the text books.
The Bench also said if such representation is filed, the School Education Director should consider it and take appropriate decision on it.
The Judges said if any mistakes were found, as pointed out by the petitioner, authorities should immediately withdraw the text books and publish fresh ones after rectifying all such mistakes
