Series of resolution were brought out at the recently concluded state level convention, including an appeal to the government review its order on the "no -fail policy" to be adopted till class VIII.
A state-level convention on ‘Quality Education for Progressive Tamil Nadu' was held at St. George Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School grounds in the city on Jan 29th with a mammoth gathering of representatives from schools across the state of Tamil Nadu and several private school associations taking part.
Appealing to the government to protect the rights of schools, teachers and students, the speakers at the convention stressed the need for schools to stay united and face the challenges and called on the government to reconsider the "No fail policy" until class VIII as it would deteriorate the educational standards in the state.
It also stressed the government to maintain quality in ‘Samacheer Kalvi' by adhering to the NCERT syllabus, adopting three-language system and reviewing the fee structure stipulated for private schools.
Other issues discussed in the convention were government’s inadequacy to bring out new changes found in developed nations like Australia and to provide the freedom for private schools in choosing books of their choice.
Speaking at the convention, VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan firmly stressed every new regulation only added corruption in the system and eradication of corruption in education was the basic reform that was needed.
