After an internal tussle between the arts, science, and commerce faculties of the Lucknow University regarding the exemption of NET/JRF qualified candidates from the university's entrance test for PhD admissions, it has finally been decided that only the JRF qualified candidates aspiring for PhD will get direct admission in the Lucknow University for the academic session 2011-12.
The decision came in a meeting of heads of all the departments late on Friday evening.
" The total number of seats will be advertised and the number of JRF candidates will be accommodated directly as per the university's reservation rules. If, in case, the seats are left vacant, general students will be given admissions after an entrance test,'' said dean, faculty of arts, AK Sengupta.
If the number of JRF admissions exceeds the number of seats in any department, candidates will be given admissions on the basis of merit. In such a situation, LU will consider the marks obtained by candidates in UG and PG courses.
However, in next meeting scheduled on February 4, deans of all the faculties will take final decision in the matter and convey the same to the academic council meeting scheduled on February 10.
