Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) hosted this year’s Athlos, its annual B-school sports festival over 3 days, from January 21-23. Athlos 2011 saw more than 100 participants from top B-schools of India like IMT Ghaziabad, IMT Nagpur and IIT Delhi take each other on in a variety of indoor and outdoor sporting events. XIMB won the overall Athlos trophy with 405 points and IMT Nagpur were runners up with 280 points.
At the closing ceremony held on the evening of January 23, cash prizes worth Rs 70,000, medals and certificates were given away to the individual events’ winners, overall runners up, and the winning teams by Prof. Subhajyoti Ray, dean academics; and Fr. PD Thomas, dean administration, XIMB.
XIMB won the cricket, football, badminton, table tennis and men’s basketball tournaments, and were the runners up in women’s basketball. IMT Nagpur were the winners in throwball and women’s basketball, and were the runners up in football, volleyball, table tennis and men’s basketball. IMT Ghaziabad were the winners in volleyball and lawn tennis and were the runners up in badminton, throwball and cricket.
The sporting extravaganza witnessed spectacular performances as each of the top teams battled it out with cut-throat competition and amazing team spirit for top place, even as the audience passionately cheered the teams in an electrifying atmosphere.
Several nerve-racking twists and heart-stopping moments in the different matches formed the highlights of Athlos 2011. XIMB clinched the cricket finals against IMT Ghaziabad by one run whereas the mind-blowing football finals between XIMB and IMT Nagpur completely changed course with XIMB winning in sudden death penalties. Star players, Gladson Vinod and Adrian Satue, both of XIMB, stole the show at every basketball game, with brilliant gravity defying acts and mesmerising performances that were a treat to watch.
