A circular mentioning the rules for conducting the school-based summative assessment exams for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Std IX and X examinations was out on the official website on Wednesday. While the CBSE Std X board examinations will be held between March 1 and 25, the circular explains that schools can hold their examinations in the last two weeks of March. They have also been asked to ensure that dates for subjects like English and Science be kept after March 23.
Avnita Bir, principal of R N Podar School, Santa Cruz (W) said," As per the board timetable, both Science and English papers will be held after March 23. These are important papers and the board might not want to disclose questions beforehand."
The circular also says that each and every CBSE school in the country will receive a CDs containing question paper banks for English Communicative, English Language and Literature, Hindi-A, Hindi-B, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Communicative Sanskrit. "Schools will have to formulate their own question papers for the remaining subjects. We can either use one of the questions papers provided by the board or use some questions from this question bank to make our own sets of question papers. In this case, schools will have to send a copy of their final question papers to the board for verification", said a principal.
"Schools will receive a CD containing the marking scheme of the main subjects. They dont have to send the answer sheets to the board. We have been asked to retain the answer sheets for at least the next three years for verification, if need be", said the principal. The circular mentions that schools cant disclose the marks to students under any circumstances. Schools will start receiving the CDs by March 7. This is the first year when CBSE Std X exams have been made optional. Around 50 per cent of students across India have opted for the school based examinations.
