Maths can be fun

 The city will soon play host to a series of events on the popular aspects of Mathematics and its application today. To be launched on January 22 by the British Council, it will be presented in association with Birla Industrial and Technological Museum and Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search. Called Celebrating Mathematics, the programme has an interesting line-up of events. To be held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum and Jagadish Bose National Talent Science Search for the subsequent sessions, it will see musician Nondon Bagchi, speak on Music and Maths in the inaugural session.

 

Spread across three months, the series will see everything from live performances to presentations by students of classes X-XII. It will also hold workshop for teachers in using current technologies. Among a host of other activities, there will be an inspirational lecture by Siddhartha Sen and a screening of BBC movie, Genius of the East. To drive away the fear of Maths from kids, there will be a workshop for 8-11 year olds by Farah Farooque. Quizzes for kids, story of maths, shapes and geometries of surfaces, unsolved problems of Maths and the enigma of zero, this is geared to make mathematics fun.
