The way forward in education

Updated on: Monday, January 17, 2011

An interactive session was initiated by Oaktree International School recently on the educational prospects of Kolkata. Chaired by Paul Regan - founding Head of the school the session was attended by Dr David Wilkinson, chairman - board of directors, Arno Dirks, director of Studies of Oaktree International School, Dr Peter Gardner - University Guidance counsellor and pastoral director of the school along with Aditya Kumar and Rishav Kajaria, founding partners of the school.

The session commenced with Paul Regan’s speech on the historical background of education in Kolkata and the need for a holistic international education here. In recent times, the educational spotlight has shifted to Pune, Bangalore, Delhi. Therefore, Oaktree aims to refocus the educational lens back to Kolkata through its internationally recognised curriculum (the International Baccalaureate and the IGCSE).

Speaking on this occasion, Aditya Kumar said, “We are honoured to be the first candidate school to bring the IB curriculum to this cultural city. It is now Kolkata’s turn to experience real, international education.” David Wilkinson, former founding head of the Mahindra United World College of India & former chairman of the development of the IB in India further explained the need for such an education in Kolkata. “IB education will encourage the all-round development of a child rather than just simply boost his knowledge. Also, if a child wishes to pursue higher education abroad, an IB diploma will help him in getting admission into the world’s finest universities”, he said.
