Regulating admission process to management institutes, the Govt has stated enrolment to management programmes shall be done through CET and PG management courses shall not be less than 24 months.
As per the new AICTE norms, management programmes more than 12 months but less than 24 months shall be termed as post graduate certificate in management programmes.
"Admission to post graduate diploma courses and the certificate programme shall be done through common entrance test (CET) such as CAT/MAT or examinations conducted by the respective state governments for all institutes others than minority institutes," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said.
Admission to all management programme shall not start before April 1 of the academic year and academic session shall normally be from June 1 to May 31 of the succeeding year, he said.
The fees to be charged for the management courses including the executive programme shall be approved by the state level fee committee of respective state government and rules relating to examinations or arbitrations on matters of examination shall be decided by the All India Board of Management of AICTE, the Minister said.
Institutes offering management programmes could go for vertical expansion on the basis of floor space index or floor area ratio, he also said.
Talking about the technical institutes in general, he said institutes completing more than one batch shall be eligible to get two courses on self disclosure if facilities and infrastructure are available.
Further, under the new norms, more than one institute can be set up in the same campus if the norms concerning availability of space is fulfilled.
Sibal said, a separate programme can be also started from the second year onwards in all AICTE approved institutes subject to availability of infrastructure only for polytechnic students for lateral entry.
Giving a boost to vocational programmes, he said evening courses for skill development programme can be offered in the areas of engineering, technology, architecture, hospitality etc in AICTE approved institutes.
