Ten students broke their fortnight-long fast finally after Union Railways Minsiter and Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee assured them that their demand to include the word 'madrasa' in the name of Aliah University here will be fulfilled if her party comes to power in West Bengal.
The Pashimbanga Madrasa Students' union has been demanding the inclusion of the word 'madrasa' in the name of Aliah University since 2007. After their demand didn't yield any fruitful result, the students decided to go on a fast. Ten students of the Union sat on fast from December 15 onwards over this demand.
"The state government did not pay heed to your demand. But once our party comes to power in Bengal we will fulfill your demands," Banerjee said.
