The Madras HC severely reprimanded a college management for demanding fee for the whole 5 1/2 years from a first-year student who was not willing to continue in the same institution.

M Khallel Ahmed, a student joined BNYS course (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences) in S V S Medical College of Yoga and Naturopathy in Villupuram district, but sought a transfer certificate to another college after finding that infrastructure facilities were not proper in the college.
However the college refused to do so and asked him to pay the entire fee for five and half year course.

Ahmed then filed a writ petition, seeking a direction to the college principal to issue a TC and No Objection Certificate.

Justice B Rajendren in his order said it was not known under what authority the College has the right to claim the fees when the student was not willing to study there.

'This shows the extraneous attitude of the college to harass students for getting money whenever they want to get out of the college,' he said and directed them to immediately issue the TC and NOC without insisting on any payment.

Since he had already passed the first year exam, the judge also ordered the college to return the first year marksheet along with the TC and other original records.
