Students should keep track of the advancements in Communication Engineering and Computer Technology as these domains touch every aspect of human life, Anna University of Technology-Coimbatore Vice-Chancellor K. Karunakaran has said.
The two domains had witnessed phenomenal changes in the recent past and they played a vital role in the development of various fields, including healthcare and agriculture, he said after inaugurating the three-day ‘International Conference on Communication and Computational Intelligence', organised by the Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, near here on Monday.
Students studying these domains should update their knowledge to apply their skills in an effective way for the nation's growth.
The conduct of such conferences provided a platform to the academics from different parts of the world, industrial experts, researchers and students to share their knowledge, discuss various issues and bring out solutions to problems, he said.
Pointing out India's growth in the information technology sector, Mr. Karunakaran said that the country required more skilled personnel to sustain the development in the sector. The educational institutions should offer flexible, need-based and market-driven training along with education in computer hardware and software, he added.
Computer Society of India president P. Thrimurthy, delivering the special address, encouraged the students to bring in original ideas.
“We should not copy the ideas and do projects. Research should come naturally and original ideas should be taken up for research. Plagiarism will spoil the image of our nation,” he said.
Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust president M. Murugesan, presiding, said that steps had been initiated to encourage research to develop cutting-edge technologies in the college.
Technology played a vital role in the development of any nation, he added.
Students and faculty members of the college were motivated to work together to bring in new technologies to fuel the growth of the country, added College Correspondent R.K. Vishwanathan.
