The WC Parker Diversity Scholarships at the University of Kentucky — that cover up to 50 per cent of tuition fees and which were originally limited to domestic US students — are now open to international students, including eligible Indian students.
Emphasising the opportunity, Audra Cryder, International Representative from the University of Kentucky, said, “The University of Kentucky awards five to 10 international students with the WC Parker Scholarships to pursue a Bachelors degree, and we are here to encourage talented Indian students to apply for these.”
Students from India applying to undergraduate programmes commencing September 2011 will be eligible for these scholarships. In addition to the Diversity Scholarships, they are also eligible to apply for numerous other academic scholarships available at the university. “The total funding provided by the University to (graduate) students from India enrolled in the fall of 2010 exceeded $750,000,” said Cryder.
Mayur Moudhgalya, a Bengaluru resident majoring in physics, who is impressed with his experience as a University of Kentucky student says that he came to the university without funding but was able to get an assistantship on campus. “The combination of helpful, friendly people and progressive facilities is great. There are tremendous opportunities here. This is the place to be,” he added.
From health sciences and business to engineering, agriculture and physics, students are actively engaged in cutting-edge projects and academic endeavours, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in programmes across the university’s 16 colleges and professional schools. Considered a top-tier public research university in the United States, the varsity is home to more than 27,000 students from more than 100 different countries, including almost 300 Indian students.
