Facebook has raised the salary bar once again. After offering Rs 38 lakh in pay to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras student, the social networking site has extended a Rs 48 lakh offer to an IIT-Kanpur student.
An official in the IIT-Kanpur student placement office (SPO) said, “A student of the department of computer science and engineering (BTech) has been offered Rs 48 lakh by Facebook, the highest offered to any IIT student, considering the records that we have with us for the ongoing campus placement drive.
Though the official did not reveal the name of the student, he confirmed that the student is in the final year of BTech course and will be passing out of the institute in June next year. A student of the computer science department said that 90 per cent of his colleagues have been placed during the ongoing recruitment drive.
During the first phase of the drive, 522 of 929 students who registered with the student placement office this year got jobs. The MTech students of department of computer science and engineering have got 100 per cent placements. The authorities of the institute said that students had got job offers from national and international financial services, consultancy, software and engineering companies. The authorities hope that the remaining students will also be suitably placed in the next two to three months. The job offers range between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 35 lakh per annum.
IIT-Kanpur registrar SS Kashalkar said that the placement had shown encouraging results since it began on December 2. "A good number of companies representing a variety of fields such as banking, consultancy, manufacturing and software have shown interest in the students of IIT-Kanpur belonging to all the departments," he added.
