The Kerala government's IT@School Project starting next week for six days will benefit 45, 000 school students. The project aims to impart customised information technology training. It was set up for empowering schools with latest information and communications technology (ICT)-enabled education, besides implementing e-governance within the education department.
The project has recently received a 'Honourable Mention' in the Stockholm Challenge Award-2010 and is considered the world's biggest ICT deployment in education using free software.
The programme will have two-day training sessions in three batches in over 750 centres spanning 14 districts in the state.
Anvar Sadath, the executive director for the IT@School Project said, “The content of a two-day programme includes topics such as how to solve the technical problems in computers, how to effectively use internet at schools, various ways to prevent cyber crimes, on-site support for free software applications and maximise use of Malayalam computing.” The students will also get a real-time experience of several graphic softwares including audio-video editing tools such as K D N Live and Audacity.
