Rural India to be theme of Delhi Book Fair

Updated on: Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Books on rural India will be the limelight of the week-long Delhi Book Fair beginning here on the Christmas day.
"The theme of this year's book fair is Rural India. Books on rural India and for the rural audience will be seen at the fair. The stands, which will display regional books, have received a 50 per cent discount," Anand Bhushan, president of Federation of Indian Publishers, told reporters here.

The annual book fair, which was rescheduled to December from September by the organisers due to the Commonwealth Games, will see participation of only one foreign country -- China, organisers said.

As of now, only one publisher from Pakistan has expressed desire to be a part of the fair but its participation has not been confirmed due to some "visa problems", they said, adding that other countries are not participating due to Christmas and New Year celebrations.

"With a diversity ranging from fiction, non-fiction, law, medical, periodicals and magazine, a turn out of 2.5 lakh to three lakh visitors is expected this year," Subas Pani, Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation, said.

Over 250 publishers will take part in the event, which had attracted around 2,74,000 visitors last year.

The fair, which will remain open from 11:00 AM to 7 PM from December 25 to January 2 at Pragati Maidan, will also feature a number of seminars and book launches.
