The government hailed the introduction of Mandarin as a language in the curriculum of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), saying it will be a trust building measure between India and China.
Gautam Bambawale, Joint Secretary (China) in the External Affairs Ministry said, "The introduction of Chinese in schools will increase trust between the two countries. It will help prepare the younger generation to understand China better. It will be a confidence building measure."
The CBSE is to introduce Mandarin Chinese studies in schools starting from Class 6 from the new academic session 2011-12.
