Kerala might lose 100 MBBS seats

Thiruvananthapuram: If the faculty shortage at Alappuzha and Kottayam Medical Colleges are not filled before June 10 the State will lose 100 MBBS seats. This directive has been issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Following this directive, the Government has decided to redeploy the faculty from Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode Medical Colleges to these two colleges where a 20 percent shortage of faculty had been reported by the MCI after their inspection.

It is learnt that the decision to redeploy the faculty has been taken following a report submitted by the Director of Medical Education (DME) and joint DME which stated that there were some excess posts in these two colleges.
