The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to introduce Mandarin as a language in the Class VI syllabus.
Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal had earlier publicly announced the plan to introduce the language in school during his visit to China.
Mandarin will be the thirteenth foreign language that will be offered in CBSE affiliated schools now. The first batch of students who will study the language through schools will be those who will begin their Class VI in the academic year 2011.
The Board will introduce activities such as role-playing, simulating real life situations, dramatising, miming, puzzles, language games, debates and jokes to teach Mandarin effectively.
