Alliance 4 Universities (A-4U), Spain, a strategic partnership between four leading Spanish public universities has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six Indian educational institutions to collaborate on the internationalisation of higher education and develop programmes that benefit student and faculty exchange between the two countries. Each university of the A-4U offers a number of scholarships and fee waivers for postgraduate study and research for international students, amounting to some 9 mill-ion euros.
The Alliance comprises Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and Universiat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (UPF) and six Indian institutions — the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore; the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur; the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi; the Birla Institute of Management & Technology and the Jaypee Education (Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Jaypee University of Information Technology, and Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology). Other institutions with which the dialogue process is on for the signing of MOUs are the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore; the University of Delhi; and the Indian Institute of Tech-nology, Delhi.
Professor Ana Ripoll Aracil, Rector, UAB and President, A-4U said the collaboration would aim to enhance the international mobility of students, researchers and academicians and help establish research collaboration partnerships worldwide. “The A-4U has an extensive network of international agreements with other universities and institutions in Europe and around the world to enable student exchanges between Alliance Universities and their partner institutions. We are happy to pool in our best resources to offer a number of scholarships and fee waivers for postgraduate study and research to non-EU students,” added Aracil.
