Teachers of St. Xavier's High School in Nerul have decided to go on an indefinite strike from December 7 to protest the non-implementation of the sixth pay commission by the school management.
"According to a government resolution (GR) issued this year, if a school decides to hike the fees in order to pay teachers then the management needs to get an approval from parents. During our PTA meeting it was decided that a fee hike would be implemented only after we teachers get our salaries. But the management disapproved of it," said Pratima Sharma, a teacher.
The teachers have given the school director time till Monday evening to respond to their grievances. "If the director comes and sorts out the issue with us by Monday we will call off the strike. Or else, there is no turning back. We will not allow students to enter the school if our demands are not met. We dont have any other option," she added.
The school principal and management were unavailable for comment.
