Education is highly essential for women to create a knowledgeable society and to produce better nation.
Beyond everything, education alone can empower women, said G. Srinivas, Regional Head, South East Regional Office, University Grants Commission, Hyderabad.
Delivering the annual day speech at Jayaraj Annapackiam College for Women. Discrimination prevails in all the areas of life; even religion has not been spared. But, the worse of all is the discrimination against women, he said.
Education is highly versatile tool to eradicate such differences. Educated women could educate their children to create a healthy and erudite society. More girl students must opt for higher education.
In earlier times, women were less educated in number when compared to men. Due to education the trend has changed these days, women are seen occupying many prime positions in every discipline and in almost all academic programmes, he added.
He also praised the role of higher educational institutions in the development of women, primarily working in rural areas.
The chief guest, Dr. Srinivas told the students to stay connected with the college and institutions where they studied.
Principal Y. Yesu Thangam said that the college, besides regular academic programmes, had been promoting research programmes as well as community development activities for the uplift of rural poor.
