Pvt firms should adopt more tech institutions, says Maha Min

Maharashtra's Minister for Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope today said that private firms should adopt more technical institutions through the
public-private partnership (PPP) model for overall national growth.
"Skill development will play a major role in the coming days taking into consideration the growth of industries in the state. Today, there is a need for industry to adopt more technical training institutes like the ITIs, through public-private partnership model for national growth and their own profit," Tope said at the 4th Global Summit on skill development organised by CII.

Currently, the Government has set up 411 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in various parts of the state.

"Private firms should co-ordinate with these ITIs and provide them with necessary training required for their companies. This will help in generating employment in those areas. We want private companies to concentrate on rural areas
too," he said.

The Government regularly takes initiatives to improve skill training facilities, but there was a need "for expansion in vocational education in a way to maximise utilisation of resources".

"Yet, it cannot work without the partnership of the industry. The challenge is to build 90 per cent functional literacy in India, change social mindset from academic
pursuits to allow students to pursue their interests, reach out to the SMEs that employ a large number of people and impart skills in local languages," he said.

Besides, there is a need to give importance to qualitative training and need to upgrade infrastucture, he added.
