Updated on: Monday, November 29, 2010

The new Global MBA for Executives (GEMBA) programme launched by the University of Virginia Darden School of Business has a timeframe of 21 months and is designed for experienced executives with a global mindset who seek to elevate their performance by pursuing MBA degrees while they continue to work full time.

Darden Professor S. Venkataraman, a world-renowned scholar in the field of entrepreneurship who is from India is the programme’s faculty leader. Starting in the fall of 2011, the Darden GEMBA programme will bring together approximately 40 executives from diverse industries and backgrounds. Darden will begin accepting applications this fall and seek applicants with 10 or more years of work experience, including significant management experience and global leadership potential.

Each class will participate in six modules that will prepare them for every aspect of international business, from leading the global enterprise to managing and sustaining organisations across different cultures and contexts. Six, two-week residencies will take place in Europe, Brazil, China, the United States and India (including New Delhi).

“This new MBA format will deliver the Darden experience for which we are so well-known but in an international format. The programme will enhance the skills of high-potential executives who need to be ready on day one to do business in any market around the globe,” said Darden’s Dean Robert F. Bruner. In 2010, the Financial Times ranked Darden number one in the world in General Management.

Darden’s partner schools in India include the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and XLRI, Jamshedpur.
