Established ten years ago, with the aim of providing quality higher education on par with international standards, The British Institute of Technology and E-Commerce (BITE), London, UK, seeks to adopt innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education in the areas of technology, science and business.
All degree programmes offered by the BITE are validated by U.K. universities. Janet Foxcroft, business development manager, BITE, who was in Chennai this past week, spoke to The Hindu Education Plus about the university and the courses it offered. The programmes offered by the BITE are intended to meet the industry demands. The curriculum provides broad-based academic courses in technology, management and e-commerce.
“We at the BITE are much diversified in what we do and are constantly upgrading our courses and curriculum to suit the industry requirement. Our focus is on innovative academic programmes,” said Ms. Foxcroft. BITE is accredited by the University of East London and concentrates mainly on management and technology master's programmes.
The master's programme in nanotechnology offered by the BITE is one of the sought-after courses. “Very few universities in the U.K. offer such a niche course. This brilliant course broadens students' critical and analytical understanding of nano applications,” she said.
The two-year master's in innovative management of the BITE is offered in collaboration with Conventry University, U.K. The course provides an opportunity to study management and the impact of technology on the techniques of management and society in general.
The academic degree programmes offered by the BITE are varied and diversified. In management, they offer banking and finance, innovative management, innovative business, strategic management and also international business and commercial law. In the field of technology, the university offers computer animation, fashion technology, security technology, network technology, innovative technology, technology and e-commerce and nanotechnology. Hospitality and tourism management and HE teaching are other two courses that have many takers.
“During the next academic year, the BITE will launch six new academic programmes,” said Ms. Foxcroft. “Our courses offer something different and exciting to the students and we are a step ahead of other universities,” she said. BITE has an existing collaboration with the Hindustan College of Engineering and Technology, Chennai, for a twinning programme.
Eligibility to apply for courses at BITE is 60 per cent marks in bachelor's degree and a score of 6 in IELTS. International students need to take the Oxford Placement Test as well. The courses are open to students and employed professionals.
