A delegation from Hong Kong led by its Permanent Secretary for Education Raymon Wong Hung Chiu today met HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and is understood to have discussed initiatives for strengthening ties.
The delegation also included representatives from various Hong Kong-based universities such as University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University and Lingnan University among others.
While appreciating the recent initiatives of the Ministry in the higher education sector, the delegation expressed interest for opening centres in India to inform students about the opportunities in Hong Kong, sources in the HRD Ministry said.
The University of Hong Kong is believed to have evinced interest to open such a center in the country, they said. The visit of the Hong Kong delegation comes close on the heels of several countries including Canada and the UK announcing new initiatives and programmes to cement ties with India in the field of education.
