CII proposes to set up skill centres

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today said it was planning to set up two skill centres in the eastern region, one each in Orissa's Balasore and Murshidabad in West Bengal.
CII's plan for the state was communicated when about two dozens of chief executive officers (CEOs) met Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.

"Work has already started in setting up a skill centre in Balasore this year. The centre is expected to be operational by early next year," R K Jena, chairman, Orissa
State Council of CII told reporters.

Stating that the skill centre at Balasore would be a partnership endeavour of CII, Balasore Alloys and IndiaCan, Jena said CII would act as catalyst for industry linakage and oversee the project.

The traits identified for Balasore Skill Centre were: retail, healthcare, sales, hospitality, gardening, driving and other skills which had high employment potential, Jena said.

Besides, CII also proposed to take up Green Bhubaneswar project, CEO team informed the state government during discussion where they submitted a proposal on development in agriculture, tourism, education, growth of small and medium industries.

With objective of assisting in the process of reforms initiated by the state government in the field of agriculture, they proposed formation of a CII-Government of Orissa Task Force on Agriculture
