Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has laid the foundation stone of the building of the Food Craft Institute (FCI) at Tura.
The Centre has identified hospitality as one of the important sectors which could create avenues for employment generation, Sangma told the gathering yesterday.

The estimated cost of the building is Rs.3.75 crore but another Rs one crore would be required for buying equipment, officials said.

“The FCI is a small step of the government to bring out trained professionals in the field of hospitality and also to ensure required manpower to make Meghalaya a tourist destination, the CM said.

However, the role of the government was only as a facilitator and it was the people who should take up such opportunity and make them work, he said.

Keeping in mind that hospitality sector is one of the largest job providers, the chief minister said the government was trying to devise training courses at all levels, to address the needs of those who had not been able to go beyond class X or class XII levels and provide them opportunity beyond the state capital or district headquarters.

The recruitment process for the institute is on and the interviews would be conducted on November 18 this year.
