To promote literacy, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up 151 model schools on the pattern of central schools in educationally backward
blocks across the state.
"151 model schools will be set up on the lines of central schools in educationally backward blocks in the state", Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta said.
Atul Kumar said the model schools would have basic infrastructure including computers.
The schools will impart soft skills training to students and help in building their character, he added.
Gupta, while taking stock of the preparations in the implementation of Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyaan in the state, stressed on the need to encourage girls to study.
"Special hostels will be constructed in 702 educationally backward blocks, under the girls hostel scheme out of which 144 will be constructed under the first phase," he said.
The hostels are meant for students studying between Standard IX and Standard XII. Each hostel would have a capacity of accommodating 100 girls belonging to SC, ST, OBC and castes.
