Macmillan’s teacher training programme
Macmillan Publishers in partnership with Vidya Bhavan Society and Everonn Education has initiated a pan-India teacher’s training programme called the Macmillan Transformational Teacher Training Programme (MTTTP). This is probably the first time that a teacher’s training programme is being delivered through the use of interactive two-way VSAT technology where experts from studios in Chennai are able to impart quality training to teachers. The key feature of the programme is its child-centric approach where the innate potential of the child is recognised and a methodology evolved to further strengthen it. The idea is to get knowledge through a process of questioning, reasoning and making informed inferences. The first five-day programme is being delivered in nine cities: Hyderabad, Chennai, Noida, Delhi, Patna, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Jaipur.
More health professionals needed
Stating that India needs more health professionals, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that a scheme has been approved which would help add nearly 5,000 postgraduate seats. The Prime Minister highlighted that work on setting up six new AIIMS-like institutions and strengthening several medical colleges is well under way.

In line with the PSAR Act, which mandates the standardisation of training and certification for private security professionals, the Central Association of Private Security in India (CAPSI) has signed an MoU with India Skills, a joint venture between Manipal University and City & Guilds, UK to provide the necessary curriculum and certification. Kunwar Vikram Singh, Chairman, CAPSI said, “City & Guilds is a worldwide acknowledged entity in security certification, training and intelligence while Manipal University needs no introduction to the field of education in our country. By bringing together the best in the industry, we are confident of creating future ready security professionals in our country in line with quality standards set in the PASR Act.” According to one estimate, the Rs 20,000-crore private security industry is growing at a rate of about 20 to 25 per cent year-on-year and currently employs over 10 million people across the country.
