Thousands of students sit for the engineering entrance exams, hoping to make it to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or the state engineering institutes. Many sit for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) that is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to select candidates for admission to the Engineering Bachelor’s degree course in different engineering colleges across the country. All the NITs, Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and Deemed Universities like the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala, and the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra admit students on the basis of their performance in AIEEE.
The IIT-JEE, the Joint Entrance Examination of the Indian Institute of Technology is used as a criteria for admission to undergraduate courses at various IITs across India, the IT BHU, Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad.
But there are several exam options to choose from apart from the JEE, if you’ve set your heart on becoming an engineer these include the online exam of BITS, Pilani; the state entrance exams — Delhi University conducts a Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) for admission to the Delhi Technological University (DTU) and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology.
The more ambitious could also try the SEE or the State Entrance Examination which is conducted by Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, for admission to degree courses in Engineering or the MAHARCET which is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra for admission to the first year of a four-year degree course in Engineering. Karnataka has a Common Entrance Test (CET), Tamil Nadu has the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) and so on. So, let nothing come in the way of your ambitions!
