Biggest IIT alumni meet on October 29

The alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will converge here on October 29 to discuss means to achieve sustainable growth at the sixth Pan-IIT Conclave, which will be inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil.

The three-day conclave, billed to be the biggest so far, will focus on the imperatives of an emerging 'New India', where speakers will deliberate on the issues of growth and transformation and identify means to ensure sustainable and equitable wealth, said chairman of the conclave Arun Seth.

The annual global meet, started in 2002, is held alternatively between India and USA.

The three-day meet is likely to host speakers such as Prime Minister of Bhutan Lyonchen Jigme Yoser Thinley, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India Nandan Nilekeni, Science and Technology inister Prithvi Raj Chavan, New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit among others.

About 3000 participants have already registered for the conclave, Seth said.

While the inaugural plenary will deal with the theme 'Sustainable Transformation', the conclave will also "showcase the social entrepreneurs who have already taken the first step and a leadership role to transform India".

The Pan-IIT organisation was formed as an umbrella organisation, covering alumni of all IITs to evolve a brand that would provide strong fraternity among them.

Over the years, it has developed into a movement with chapters in India, the USA, EU, Canada, Australia, Japan and Singapore, among others.
