With the passing of foriegn varsity bill in the parliament that allows opening of foreign varsity campuses in the country has posed threat to the country's premier management schools - Indian Institutes of Management.
Concerns of IIMs losing quality faculty and students to these campuses was discussed at IIM-A on Sunday. In the event called Connexions 2010, director of IIM-A Samir Barua voiced concern about the challenges facing the IIMs in the country with the passing of the bill.
Connexions is an annual event organized by the students of the post graduate programme in management for executives (PGPX) at IIM-A to facilitate interaction and exchange of ideas and knowledge among the students of the programme, working professionals and its alumni.
Referring to the foreign universities bill, Barua said, "We might lose quality faculty members and good students." "The only saving grace is that foreign institutes are also facing tremendous amount of resistance from their respective countries," he said.
The director also said that these foreign institutes are facing issues of credibility of the degrees awarded to students on their own campuses and foreign branches.
In response to such an emerging scenario, Barua said that IIM-A is working on the institute’s international ranking and getting accreditations from international bodies for business schools.
