Showcasing hunger concerns through posters

On one side of the hourglass is a grand gala party with exotic dishes on the platter, the leftovers of which are discarded in overflowing bins. On the other, a massive crowd grabs every morsel wasted.

The telling image, which said ‘Every morsel is a feast for us,' was part of the display at a poster competition organised by Young Indians of Confederation of India Industry (CII) at the Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram here on Saturday.

As many as 16 posters designed by students of eight schools attempted to showcase various concerns related to hunger and wastage of food.

The event was meant for students of classes IX – XII.

Mark Demelle, Owner, Convex studios, who judged the event, said that the manner in which some posters used visual elements to convey the message, made them more expressive than the rest.

Time management

Chief Guest of the event, Vidhya Srinivasan, principal consultant and CEO, Sarara Inc., advised the students not to be bogged down by peer pressure and learn to manage their time to perform their best.

Apart from promoting awareness among the student community on the urgency to address global concerns such as hunger, J. Ajeeth Prasath Jain, Senior Principal, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram, said the programme was an attempt to revive the “diminishing habit of reading” in children on serious issues. “Children today are privileged in a lot of ways, but they need to be conscious of their duties and collective responsibilities.” The first place in the competition was awarded to the team from Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Velachery. Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya, Mylapore, came second while the third prize was bagged by DAV Girls Secondary School, Gopalapuram.
